Jun 2019 | Biddinghuizen | Q-dance
Defqon.1 Weekend Festival is an annual music festival held in Biddinghuizen, the Netherlands. It was founded in 2003 by our client Q-dance. The festival is focused on the harder styles of dance music, inviting DJs to bombard the crowd with extreme beats and lots of BPM from 10 different stages. This year’s festival was the most visited edition, with 78.000 visitors.
Defqon.1 also offers a fantastic camping experience for electronic music fans. Besides, on the Wasted Lands between the camping and festival terrain, activities took place 24 hours a day.
Backbone International has been involved with Defqon.1 for the 8th year now, working closely with our client Q-dance. We handled the technical design and production of the RED, RED VIP deck, BLACK, and UV stage. So, it was quite a challenging stage to build with a lot of hoisting, but all daily targets were reached, and the complete load-in and load-out of all stages went as was thought and talked about before the build.
Besides these stages, we were also in charge of the production of the complete campsite, and our Overlay manager helped guide the overlay team and suppliers to make every deadline on time. Our Risk & Crowd Services manager was the liaison for the overall safety of all visitors.
