Hosted by Q-dance, Defqon.1 Weekend Festival is an annual four-day music festival. After moving the last two editions online, the “home of the harder styles” festival was back. It took place from June 23rd to June 26th, 2022, at Biddinghuizen, the Netherlands. So, the festival saw a turnout of about 70,000 attendees.
Backbone sent a large contingent as the team undertook various roles and worked on different festival areas. Our team handled the technical design with 3D drawings and technical production in collaboration with ArtFX Events and The Whole Sha-Bang. And the overlay production and management, production of the entire festival’s campsite, and the power infrastructure supervision.
The crew also built the festival’s different stages: Black, Blue, and UV, and the event’s main stage, Red – measured 152,5m wide and 38m high and was built on 60 pontoons. Backbone also produced the event’s VIP Deck, one of Europe’s largest campsites – catering to around 45,000 campers. The team started working on the full pre-production almost 7 months in advance. June 7th to June 22nd was the deadline for everything to be ready, as the 23rd was marked for show rehearsal and final tweaks.
