Sep 2022 | New York | Avant Gardner
Established in 2009, the internationally renowned Electric Zoo Festival is one of New York City’s most prominent music events. This year’s festival was during Labor Day weekend and featured top names across the electronic music spectrum, such as Armin van Buuren, Carl Cox, Diplo, Diesel, and Pauline Herr. International editions of Electric Zoo have taken place in Mexico City, Tokyo, Shanghai, and São Paulo.
Backbone was responsible for the site operations and risk management of the festival. This meant assisting in the site footprint design and all the health and safety aspects, including security management, command post management, and medical team consultations. After recently being taken over by new owner Avant Gardner, the event introduced several changes to the festival’s layout. However, despite the tight time frame, our team managed to pull together the resources needed.
We arranged 50+ pieces of heavy equipment and 60 light towers and placed 52 mobile offices onsite. The team also organized the motor pool and installed over 30,000 linear ft (9,144m) of fencing. Regarding catering to the attendees, we managed vendors to handle crowd cooling systems, water stations, and the placement of over 500 portos, nine restroom trailers, and comfort stations within the area. A fantastic celebration all around!
