Aug 2015 | Amsterdam | Sail Event Partners & City of Amsterdam
Once every five years, Amsterdam has been the nautical center of the world for the five days of SAIL Amsterdam. In 2015, nearly 2.3 million visitors enjoyed the magnificent tall ships, the performances, and the atmosphere.
After a very successful 2010 edition, Backbone again signed up for the technical production and overlay management of this large-scale event.
In addition to the technical production, Backbone was challenged to design and set up the entire infrastructure for the event. This included six stages, dozens of tent structures, kilometers of barriers, and logistics covering an area of 50. Sealing off the area was out of the question within the entire site, which was situated in a public station. To get everything into place with minimal disruption for the local residents, the operation was executed with military precision.
However, the spectacular floating theatre was undoubtedly the most special and challenging stage. Which was built exclusively for SAIL to hold themed shows daily during the event.
Almost one year of complete focus from our project team, working closely with SAIL event partners, resulted in an unparalleled and beautiful event in the middle of Amsterdam.
